During the voyage of the Glasgow sliip City of Delhi from London to Melbourne one of the crew foil overboard. The vessel had her skysail set at the time, and was going along steadily with a nine-knot breeze. Captain Drysdale, hearing the cry of "mail overboard," was on deck almost immediately, ordered the helm hard down, and the vessel made a stern board right on to the sailor, who was there and then picked up by the ship herself. Directly lie was seen to fall into the water a life-buoy was thrown towards him, and, being a good swimmer, he managed to secure it He did not lose his presence of mind by any means, for on coming to the surface, his first effort was to sing out —"City of Delhi, ahoy!" A boat was manned, and in readiness to lower, but, fortunately, its services were not required. With the exception of a soaking, lie was none the worse for his mishap.
