Carterton Borough Council.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Council was "held on Monday. Present:—His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Crs A . Booth, W. Vickerstaff, Jas. Bayliss, T. Moore and'G. W. Deller. The Treasurer reported a debit balance of LlO7 10s lOd, Correspondence was read from Carterton Rifle Volunteers stating that they did not care to form themselves into a fire brigade. Mr W. J. Lindop was granted permission to erect a verandah in front ot his premises. From Mrßerrills requesting that the-'' by-law in respect to the alteration of the Assembly Rooms be not enforced for a short time. The Clerk was instructed to say that the by-law could not be altered in the way desired. The roadman's report was read. The - Mayor suggested that atom* 1000 faefc - of timber be ordered for curbing where required. The sugLstion was adopted. It was resoled that the rcadman notify to the clerk where crossings are necessary and that' the Town Clerk give the persons concerned notice accordingly, from Messrs G. A. Pairbrother and W. B. Campin drawing attention to a patent nightsoildeoderiser.andstatinglurther, . thrt they would undertake the emptying of the pans. Councillors thought that they could not make it compulsory for the residents to adopt the system. The only thing they could do would bo recommend it to them,
