Fire at FeatherstonFeatherston, Tuesday. A fire occurred in the wash-house at Mrs Cadenhead's residence at 6.80 this morning, and destroyed the cottage and furniture. Insurances—£loo on the house, and £SO on the furniture, in the Victoria. She is a heavy loser in furniture. Colonial Bank Profits. Dunedin, Tuesday. The Colonial Bank profits for the half year are £17,924, of which £IOOO is added to the reserve fund, £4,126 carried forward, and seven per cent, dividend declared. Serious Tramway Accident. Wellington, Tuesday. A serious accident happened on the Tramway Line this morning. A car was in the act of stopping opposite the Newtown School, to ;let a. lady teaoher out, when a little boy named Walters, aged about nine or ten, in attempting to get out of the front door stumbled and fell beneath the car. When the car was stopped, the [wheel was found resting on the boy's body. He was at once extricated, and was found to have sustained severe injuries. He was removed to the Hospital, but it is not expected that he will recover. A Singular Accident, Wellington, Tuesday. J. Billing, formerly an employee of Crogden & Co., was found sitting on some timber in Custom Street last night with a broken ankle. He had evidently dragged himself to the stack of timber. He made no statement as to how the accident happened, but was conveyed to the Hospital, where it was discovered that lie had sustained a compound fracture.
