MASTERTON ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Saturday. Present: Messrs W. H. Beetham, (Chairman), Dagg, Buick and JohnBton, Correspondence, Colonial Treasurer advising payment of £2OO on account of loan. Same intimating that loan applied for of £1560 had been granted; County Clerk asking if Board would take over the maintenance of the main roads. Consideration of this was deferred until the next meeting. Treasurer requesting statement of Board's indebtedness. Same with ! statement of interest due on loans. Donovan's Road, A letter was read from Mr W. B. Mathespn jntimating that he wpujd 1$ pleased to see Donqvtpi's old road formed on condition that Mr Donovan sign an agreement to give up'all olaim
on the old track across the writer 3 ... property, lie (Mr Matheapuj undertaking to. pay the interest ou a loan 01 £BO to be expended in connecting t i_a new line of road, where it leaves his property, with the old, line. Mr, Pownall here, interviewed the Board on behalf of Mr Donovan and urged a settlement of the question. . . The Chairman replied ttet the Board had seen the Minister 'Bf Lands . on the subject of this road and they, hoped by the next meeting to be able to give-.a definite decision .is to what they were prepared to do.' • Mr Donovan , himself subsequently waited on the Board as also did Mr, Matheson and each expressed their views on the question at some length. Eventually the parties left,, .the Board expressing a hope that , they would» • come.to an amicable arrangement. Tenders. The following tenders were received ;; for formation of road leading to Blatcliford and Martin's properties:—?. C. , Madsen, £|o (accepted); P. &r, £37 17s, felane'and Bassett; £BtaK>s 6d, : Niel Petersen, £4B; U'Keefe,TO2. A road dispute. Mr Gorringe,applied to - the. Board , to fence the road through his property ■ leading to Mr A . Burnett's mill. There were' 35 chains of fencing required, and unless it was erected he would do - his best to close the road.
Mr Burnett, . who was afterwards present, said the Board would be placed in a difficulty if it complied, as other similar claims would be made.

legal advic?. ■ * The Chairman thought it would be wiser to spend the money locally on the fencing. Mi' Gorriage threatened to spend £55 it necessary. in maintaining his rights and the Board suggested that £25 would put up the'feuco. The interview terminated .without any satisfactory understanding. . AT Miscellaneous. The overseer was instructed to interview Mr It. Campbell aintery and arrange with him for a piewTof' laiid for a gravel pit. and to give acces# to ilr Angus McLeod. Resolve/l lhat the Colonial Treasurer be paid interest due oil debentures, and that the form be filled in. Mr Evan McKenzie applied for 2l) chains of metalling on the Mauriceville South road leading past his property. Referred to the overseer for report. It was decided to warn Messrs Blaine and' Bassett to proceed with contract on Matahi.wi road, otherwise, penalty could be enforced. Mr D. McLaclilan applied for fencing on the road to Blatchford and Martins. It was decided to perform the work. It was also decided that any surplus from the loan for the OpaM : Rangitumau road : be expended on widening the; corners at the Bluff. The Overseer was instructed to get two extra hands to assist the roadmen at Brancepeth to repair dMis on the We3tmere road, V Accounts. 'Accounts amounting to £l6O were passed for paymeut. x
