Eketahuna Road Board.
An ordinary meeting of tlio above board was held on the 3rd instant. Present Messrs T, Bayliss (Chairman), M. Nilson, A. Anderson, and C. E. Bookman. The minutes of the previous meeting were read ami confirmed. Correspondence iinvaids, From Colonial Secretary re result of poll for loan From Colonial Treasurer requesting to be supplied with return of loans and overdraft. From County Council with plan of metal reserves. From same asking if the board is prepare! to take over the maintenance of main roads in the evont of the County Council banding over to them the separate rate. From commissioner of Crown Lands re returns of and payment of accrued thirds. From County Engineer requesting that the metal pit on the Al'Vedton road might be kept in order. From the same regarding repairs on the main road at Man«amaboe, FrowTreasury advising payment of 75 per cent, subsidy, and Crown Lands rate, and from bank acknowledging receipt of same. From Mr W. Kenney requesting to he placed on ratepayers roll. From Mr A, Small asking for a few chains of formation on the road leading to his land, It was resolved to apply to the Comity Engineer for apian of bridge for the Makakabi river, and to ask him to supervise the work ; also, to inspect a stream on tlie Mangaono Yallev road near MessrsKeester and Harding's residence and supply a plan for bridge or culvert. It was decided to call for tenders for carting metal for repairs on the main road, near the Mangamahoe station, and for metalling portions of the Alfrcdton road, Messrs Bayliss and Nilson were appointed tn lay off the sections to be metalled, alsp to inspect the road leading to Mr Small's land. It was decided to have the otliee painted and papered and to call for tenders for same; and also to insure it, An application was made by Mr Anderson on behalf of the Minister of Justice, for the use of the Road Board office as a courthouse free of charge in order to obtain a monthly R, M, Court. The request was "ranted. The subject of Road Boards taking over the main road was considered. The Board was in favor of the proposal, but felt that the responsibilities of the Eketahuna Road Board would be greater ■ than those of tho adjoining Road Boards until the completion of the Railway to Eketalmna It was decided to ask if the County Council would make any special provision for one year in the event of the Eketahnna Road Board undertaking the maintainanco of the main road. Accounts amounting to £2O Ga were passed for payment. Messrs Anderson and Nilson were appointed to sign cheques. The meeting then adjourned.
