Dukedin, February 29, Sir James Hector has received a cable from Mr Seed, in Melbourne, stating that extension of space has been granted to New Zealand in the Melbourne Exhibition. Our exhibits now amount to ten thousand feet, and probably more in main building.

A Good Land Sale, Dunedin, February 28. A successful Crown Lands sale was held to-day. Sections in the township of Kelso at upset price of M, went up to a price varying from £9 to £2l. The small grazing runs were nearly all sold at an advance on the upset price. Pastoral licenses sold well, one of the Hammock runs, with upset price fixed at £4OO, realising £790, and oae at Nenthorns £llOO, one at Lauder, with upset price of £250, fetched £355, and one at Kingstone £250 from £IOO, upset price.

Westport Coal Company's Dividend,

At the annual meeting of the Wesfcport Coal Co. the Directors' report recommending a 2i- per cent dividend, was adopted.

Volunteer Capitation Allowances. Wellington, February 29. The Minister of Defence has issued a circular fixing capitation for the year ending 31st December, 1888, but it will be subject to the vote of Parliament. The scale is as follows : Adult corps, 30s; Cadet Corps, ss. With reference to the capitation for cadets, it is not probable that it will be continued after the expiration of this year. The regulations regarding the minimum strength of corps are lo be strictly enforced, and no exception to this will under any circumstances' be allowed, A Fortunate Harbor Board. Oamaru, Feb. 28. ' Mr George Sumpter was re-elected chairman of the Harbor Board to-day. In his annual statement he said the revenue had increased by about £IOOO during last year.
