A Family Row, Alfred King v E. i{. Jones for using insulting language, Mr Beard for defendant. Tho plaintiff deposed that on the 15th February inst, his wife accidentally put some ashes into a box, there being some live coals amongst the ashes which ignited the box and set lire to a pile of his, the plaintiff's, house, the defendant being his next door neighbor. This led to tho conflict between thcin. The defendant deposed that on the loth February inst., he and his wife came home
about a quarter to nine o'clock p.m., and that there was a great fire burn#ing just outside of the plaintiff's bad* door, and one or two days following there was a fire at the rear of the plaintiff's house.
To Mr Beard: —The plaintiff came to me, I did not go to him when the language complained of was used, Information dismissed without costs. Affiliation Case,
Elizabeth Oorkhill v (J. Bowles.— Mr Powaall foe plaintiff, Mr Saudilands for defendant. Tho plaintiff deposed that she was a married woman, but that her husband was away. Tho defendant first had intercourse with her in September, 188 G. The child was bom in July, 1887. When she became pregnant she informed the defendant ot the fact, and he promised to see her over her trouble. When she was confined he paid the nurse, and agreed to pay the doctor. He had given her one pound per month for the support of the child until the last three months. i To Mr Saudilands: When I regis- *■ tered tho child, I registered it in the jtamme of my husband (Corkhill). The Vpound a month he gave me was for the maintenance of the child, He paid extra for his washing. The letter put in was written by Mr Mercer, who was living in tho same house. He wrote the letter for me in answer to a letter from the defendant in respect to his washing. There were men who used to come to the house, but it was in reference to their washing. I never told people that the child belonged to my husband, To Mr Pownall: It was at the suggestion of the defendant that I registered the child in the name of my husband. 1 distinctly swear that the defendant is the only man who has had immoral connection with me. The defendant being sworn, deposed: I have known the complainant some considerable time, hit I never had any intercourse with her. She has asked me to stay with her at night, «t I refused. I never paid the nurse the doctor, and never promised to so. :J k At this stage of the proceedings, gfp Mr Pownall asked leave to withdraw the information, as the defendant denied everything, and he had no possible means of proving the charge against the defendant. The withdrawal was allowed with costs against complainaut, 1112s. Civil Cases. • C. H. Giles v Thos. Watson, debt &U 4s 3d. Mr Sandilanda appeared for plaintiff, Defendant had put in a set off, but failed to be in time, and it was not allowed. Judgment for plaintiff, with costs 30s, solicitors' fee £2 2s. Any further action was stayed for fifteen days to allow the defendant to bring his cross action. J, A. Dudson v Tanihana, Judgment by default for amount claimed £2 lis Gd, and costs 30s,
