For the winners Rutherford's hard hitting (14) at a critical time was of the utmost value, as was ulsd tho scoring a t other stages of Hawke (14 and 15) and Beard (11 and 18). For them, too, Bethune'a bowling was (lead on, and very difficult to play, being mostly "bailers", Judd in bowling seemed hardly up to his usual form. Masterton's batting strength was well represented by Perry (18 not out) Moore (10 and 14), Pownall (14), and Smith (10), while Perry and Pownall were about equally successful with the ball. MoKenzie also for the short time he was on, got some good ones iu with due eOect, Iggulden's long stopping, too, was very serviceable and his 24 runs in the first innings, helped considerably with Masterton's score.
