PAHIATUA LICENSING ELECTION.

Strange Proceedings. Paiiiatua, February 23. After the election of the Licensing Committee on Monday, the Returning .Officer told the bye-standers that Wakeham, Bui rows, Aston, Stokes, and Bainton were elected. In the next day's newspaper no result of the polling was advertised, nor was any reason. given, but the Returning Ollicer called for fresh nominations, etc. It is understood that he Ins of his own notion quashed the election as invalid on account of an informality in voting, It.is thought that he ought to have advertised the result of the poll and left others to upset it if they choose, If his action is illegal then fresh nominations will be invalid, and it is hoped that the proper authorities will interfere and give directions.
