Changes in R,M,s, Mr Wardell Resigns.
Wellington, February 20,
Mr Sefch Smith, E.M., Auckland, lias boon granted six months' leave of absence and Dr Giles, of Hokitika, will take his place. The West Coast business will be worked for the present by Major Kecldell and Mr Bird. Mr Wardell, E.M., Wellington, will resign on a pension, and his position has been offered to Mr D. Eobinson, of Oamaru.
. . LARGE FIRE. Auckland, February 20. About four o'clock on Sunday morning. a destructive fire occurred at Devonpdrt, and devastated nearly the whole of Victoria Street. It originated in the premises ol Grath, tobacconist, and extended till it destroyed bouses and shops occupied by Amos' Holmes; Mrs Mclnnis, dressmaker; Jervis, draper; Eobinson, bootmaker; Leonard, printer; Coogan,blacksmith; Tye, fruiterer j Frank Baker, shoe' maker j also empty shop and house. The buildings were owned by Jas Mays, John Jervis, John Patterson, Wm. Buchanan,, and Miss Davis,' The want o£ a proper water supply was very much felt, Loss greatly exceeds insurances,
