Californian Thistle., Gorse and other noxious weeds. '

The recent report of the sub-com-mittee of the Christchurch Agricultural and Pastoral Association on the Californian thistle, gorse, and noxious weeds nuisances is interesting, It reads as follows" The sub committee beg to report that it is desirable to call the attention of the Govtrnmeufc to the necessity of steps being taken to abate the gorse nuisance, as it is growing and spreading to an alarming extent on both Crown lands and pri-~ vate property, and forms excellent shelter and protection to that Ipous pestlthe rabbit. And the Committee would suggest that the Government be asked to bring hi a bill, during the next session of Parliament, making it compulsory upon property-ownera to clear their properties of the encumberww, and to keep them tfa

future, and also that Government .should bo asked to do the samo with respect to Grown lands." " Also, re the Californian thistle. After reading lengthened correspondence M the subject, and much disousaioifrit was resolved to urge tho Government to take immediate steps to check the spread of this noxious weed, this being the season of the j ear it spreads most by the seeds being carried by the wind."
