Awfully Sudden Death at Pahiatua.

Pahmua, February 6. A very sudden 'death occurred yesterday, afternoon, Mr John Doran,' storekeeper, and one of the oldest and most esteemed settlers, dropped dead a few miles out Of town. He, with several others, had been out to firo bush over hilly country on ■ the Makaltahi, and Mr Doran worked hard, climbing high hills, so. as to well fire the bush.; After doing thishe appeared cheerful, and sat down and had a bit of lunch. The party then started to ascend a steep hill on thorium journey, as they wished to get out before the fire on the road started. They had just commenced to ascend the hill, when Mr Doran dropped, without saying a word, and expired. Owing to a delay in getting the body to the top of the hill, the fire down the road had. been started, and it was found impossible to get the body out. It had, therefore, to be left all night in a safe place, and will be brought down to-day, when an inquest will be held. The cause is supposed to be heart disease,
