Taratahi-Carterton Road Board.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the aboye Board was held on Saturday last, Present: Messrs W. Booth (in the chair), E. W. Dorset, H. Braithwaite, W. Parker, J. Bayner, D, Eeid and James Stoveus. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of LOO Is 7d. James Hodder requested that the stones be broken on the road leading to his property; request granted. B. K.

Armstrong wrote re the fence leading | to bis property not being done as agreed upon. Resolved that Mr Hughan be notified to do it without delay. From Messrs Williams and wßeetham noticing that they would attend to the gate, at the gravel pit. From Mr J. George complaining about • the ranger not releasing his cow when offered the usual fees. Resolved that enquiries be made into the matter. A deputation waited on tho Board to ask if they would do something towards gravelling Kokatau Road. Mr J. Udy offered to contribute L!iO towards the work ; the full cost it was thought would be about LGO. Resolved that tenders be called for 60 chains metalling on the road in question. It was decided that the road leading from Park Road to Somerset be called Short Road, and that the same be opened without delay. Mr Phillips waited on the Board in reference to the opening up of the Waihoine Valley Road.

In respect to this road, it was determined that as Mr Anderson refuses to . allow the making of tli3 road, unless i&he Board fence each side of it, that Ihe affair be abandoned, and Mr Phillips be refunded the £25 which he deposited with the Board, towards the said road.

It was resolved that tho Clerk be authorised to go to Wsllington to search tho records with reference to a road between Mr Oates' and Dr. Spratt's property in No 2 Ward. Some Wardens obtained permission to have repairs done to roads in their Wards, and for tenders to be called for metalling to be done. Mr D, Reid, warden for No. 7 ward, gave in his resignation as a member of the Board, on the plea that he could not devote the necessary time to looking after the roads as a warden should do.—Resignation accepted, Several accounts wore passed for payment. Tenders for the formation and metalling of 25 chains of Perry's road were opened, and Mr R, J. Chapman's (of Masterton) was accepted at Ll 18s (Jdper chain, and for metalling 23 (chains of the main road, Mr Thos. Reid's was accepted at Ll 4s Gd per per chain. The meeting then terminated.

Whareama Road Board.'

A meeting of the above Board was held on. Friday, 3rd inst. PresentMessrs R. R, Meredith (Chairman), H. Elder, J. Morrison and G. Moore. The previous meeting's minutes were confirmed. Correspondence was read from Mr E. Meredith re work at Kahiwai; action postponed, From Colonial Treasurer re interest upon loan. Held over until the special rate is collected. From Mr A. J. Rawson, re Maugapui road, From Treasury, re petition of Mr R. R. Meredith against the loan of £2OO. Moved by Mr Moore that a sum of £5 be placed at Mr Hitchings' disposal to improve the approach to his homestead at

Beaumont from the district road; carried. Resolved that leave of WL absence be granted to Mr E. Meredith and that consideration of his application for work at Kahiwai be postponed until next meeting. Resolved that before the sum claimed by the Masterton Board is paid, that Board be requested to hand to Mr W, G. Beard the conveyance of the Uriti Road line duly executed.
