The Government's Intentions.

The Hon W. 11. Smith iu a speech announced that the Government would introduce a measure next session having for its object the simplification of titlos. He argued that the Irish policy of the Government was the best that could be pursued under the existing circumstances, and they intended to persevere with it. He repudiated the idea of a return to Protection, but thought that the Government would probably agree to the conversion of Consols. The London Wool Sales.

London, January 31. The first of the year's wool sales opened to-day, and there was a large attendance of Home and foreign buyers the latter being specially continental. Six thousand five hundred bales were catalogued, half of which were received from New South Wales and Queensland. , Bidding was extremely keen and the tone strong, prices being fully equal to .the best November rates. Crossbreds are firm at a 5 per cent advance, and the market is very promising. The arrivals are 853,000 bales, and the total available for the series is 283,000.
