The Canadian Female Doctor. Wonderful Cures in Dunedin, Dunedin, January 24. For the last three weeks the public have been mystified byisome alleged cures on the part of a recent arrival, styling herself "The American Eemale Doctor." This lady made her appearance daily (until her supply of physic) owing to its wonderful sale, gave out iu what is termed a "golden chariot," drawn by three wild white steeds, and took up her stand on a vacant pieceof ground opposite the railway station. The golden chariot is rather an rately got up vehicle, specially < arranged to carry a baud, while the front is open and leaves roorfflfov the lady to perform on her patients, Thousands of people have watched her performances, which nightly begin with the extraction of teeth. This is done" free, gratis, and for nothing," and whatever may be the merits or demerits of the other parts of the performance, there can be no question that in matters of toothpulling she can give points to any deutist. No sooner is the offending molar pointed out than it is drawn. Those who have been stripped of four or live teeth at a sitting declare that the operation as performed by the lady is entirely painless. Tumors and fistules have also been removed, paralytic bedridden patients have been made to walk, and halt and lame have been made to dance, indeed if popular stories are to be credited, miracles, almost are performed. Whether . these cures are genuine or their effects are lasting time only will Jjaw; but those who daily crowd to Wness tljfe treating are implicit believers in Mr' genuineness of the thing. In the sale of her medicines the Canadian doctor has fairly coined money, taking it by the bag full in publio, and having in, addition an extensive private practice. , When removing a tumour she offers a , handsome present to any doctor who , will perform the same operation. , During Madame Duflout's visit to i Dunedin the charities have benefitted . largely at her hands.
