Mr Renall and the Corporation.
(To the Sir.—How much longer is the present squabble between the Mayor arid the Councillors going to keep up? 1 see the Borough Council has instituted a prosecution now. I don't what good that will do us, securing a water supply. They seem determined to prevent Mr Renall from carrying out his- scheme, unless he provides tliem with a plan and specification and shows what he intends doiug, and I think they aro reasonable in so determining. They do not, however, seem to drop to the fact that " his Worship" will never do what they want m this direction. They ought to do so though, and the sooner they do it the better, if we are to have a water supply at all. It simply amounts to this. The residents are determined to have a supply of some kind, and if the Council wish to secujdUheir sympathies they must beyond interfering with the Mayor's well-meant but ill-directed efforts—they must show that they have a plan of their own to substitute. They must make it plaiu that they can provide
I : _ , officiont a service as the town needs and as the ono they reject. If the councillors don't feel equal to do this, then lot them pay some ono to think for them, and invite com- _' petitive schemes. A water right , can he acquired through other land Mr Henall's, and even if necessary his could be taken under arbitration, _ Lot them do something in this direction that will be a practical benefit, and for recreation no ono will begrudge them filling in spare time by tormenting their troublesome mayor both with the law and without it. I am, etc., A Queen Streeter.
