MASTERTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The ordinary, monthly meeting of the Committee was held last eveniiig? Present—Messrs Boddington Mai4. man), Lowes, McEwen, CUllen, Hogg, Herou and Payton, The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and confirmed, and a balance sheet'presented for the past year, which showed a total expenditure of £289 l4gjjU)d, and a debit balance of £8 9s 4di * Correspondence was VeacL from the Trustees of the Temperance Hall, offering the use of that building on certain terms. . From Education Board, calling for two nominations for the Board,. the retiring members being Messrs Young, Brown, • and' Paterson, and from Mr Young, asking the Committee.to nominate him. Mr Payton said lie was opposed to nominating Messrs Yoiihg andßrowii, as he considered they had injured Masterton by their action in conneotioii with the side school question, and proposed that the Bev. J. Paterson be' nominated.' Mr Hogg believed the three retiring members would be re-elected. He believed Messrs Young and Brown had discharged their duties • impartially, and were the two most useful members of the Board. He .moved as an amendment; that they .be' nominated. Mr Lowes said his vote must be influenced by his recollection 'ofy the action of Messrs Young and Brown in connection with the side Abol, and _ lie would: second Mr Peon's motion. Mr Hogg's amendment; not finding' a. seconder, the motion was carried.. Tenders for cleaning, the schools were considered' and Mrs Bartiett's for the main school;, at £23 per annum, and Mrs Webb's for the side.school, at L 9 per annum were--1 accepted.
