The Wairarapa Daily. THURSDAY, JANUARY 19, 1888.
Mr Eenaix refused last evening to allow a representative of the press to copy the text of a petition which he was presenting for signature. If ratepayers are foolish enough to sign a secret paper of this character, the Government when they receive it will no doubt assess at its proper value a memorial which they will probably be advised has been got up under conditions which must invalidate it as a public document. We have had evidence submitted to us which convinces us that the discovery of auriferous quartz up the Waiohine is a find which is likely to lead to very valuable results. We have also a reason to believe that gold bearing quartz of a similar character exists in the neighborhood of the Waingawa, and expect shortly to lie in a position to satisfy all our readers on this very important point.
