LAND BOARD.
The ordinary mealing of the Board was held at Wellington yesterday (Thursday). Prosent, Messrs J". W. A. Merchant (chairman)", 6, Beetham, W. W. McCardle, W. A, Fitzherbert, and A,--Reese. The schedule showed the land disposed of since last meeting to he 2449 a. lr. 30p., at an upset! price of £298 10s Bd, £57 0s 6d of which was paid up. An application from Mr W. Brazil, selector of section 10, Block IV., Makuri, to capitalize and pay off was granted, as. was, also a similar application from Mr D. Mcßeth, selector of section 8, Block IV, ; Mangahao. The selector of section 9, Block IV., Mangahao,. applied to transfer the same. It. was resolved to inform him that when hi? improvements have been effected his application will be favorably considered, . The'Under-Secretary of Crown Lands wrote with reference to the sale of sections 45,46, and 49, Block IV,, Mangaone, aud it was resolved to offer the sections under the Act of 1885, at £5, £llos, and £3 per aero respectively, at auction at an early date. With reference, to the sale of part section 13, Agricultural Reserve Rangitikei, it was resolved to offer tho land for sale under the new Act at a price of £4 per acre. It- was resolved to refund the original selector of seotion 10, Block 111., Wairoa, 75 per cent of the- amount received for improvements effected by him on the land. The Commissioner laid a schedule of seotions in Block IX., Ongo district, before the Board, and it was resolved to appoint Mr Assistant-surveyor Ashcroft an appraiser to value the same with a view to offering them to adjacant owners without competition. The Board ap-' proved of the pluu for expending accrued thirds/ forwarded by the Bketahuna Road Board. The Wairoa Road Board's plans were also approved, with the exception of contract No, 0, which the Board objected to unless the consent of the owners of adjacent sections were obtained. Mr Good waited on the Board with reference to closing the Moroa road to Alfredton, and was reqnested'to writo to the Government on the matter. The Board then rose,. —Evening Press,
SUPREME COURT. Wellington, January 6. In the case Sylvester Dennis Egan,. charged with breaking and entering, tue jury were locked up all night without agreeing, and were discharged this morning, prisoner to be arraigned for. a new trial to morrow. Clement Q. Harding: for false -pretences was sentenced to three years imprisonment, he having just come out.of gaol where he was serving <t sentence on fjve similar' charges. Jp|n, Jqhnstone aljas Ticldepenny and Charles Jftmes Sharp, were convicted of larceny and eaoli received one years, hard labor. The case of Uriah Jas. Williams for indecent assault is now proceeding.
