The outlook for farmers in Canterbury seems to be vory encouraging this year, as the following taken from the Christchurch Telegraph wII show," In the northern districts everywhere, without any exception, the cropß of grain show a much more healthy and promising appearance than it was anticipated a month wi they would do. The growth lately has been very rapid, and the grain stands very strongly upon tho ground. In some parts of the Ashley county crops are to be met with which in their extreme luxuriance have not greeted the eyo for years. The account's from 'Several correspondents show that farmers look on the prospects with great hopefulness. So far a good yield is expected, though they deplore the outlook in prices for graiii, It is estimated that the produce from- the crops this season, under favourable conditions, will attain a higher average than it has done for several seasons. In some localities oats and wl}eat also are breaking into ear. The hay crop has beep most' prolific, while tho supply of grass feed has been mora abundant than in any season .within the ken of any of the settlers.
