PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given that the ■*■ Mnnterton Borough Council intend holdinjf a Special meeting on THURSDAY,' December 30th, 18S7, at7,3op,m, in the Council Chambers, for tho purpose of confirming n resolution adopted at a special meeting of the said Borough Council, held on the 22nd November, 1887, viz,, That a Special Order be and it is hereby made repealing all.By-laws fw the Borough of Masterton previously, made and now in force, and making now By-laws for the following objects, such existing By-laws to be repealed, and such new By-laws to como into force on the Fourteenth day of January, 1888. STREETS. To regulate the construction of porticoes or other projections into or over any street or private street as to situation, materials' and dimensions, and to provide for the proper notification, and for the removal of any such portico or other projection existing contrary to the provisions ot these By-laws, To provide for tho naming and re-naming of streets, and numbering of houses, and to punish any, person defucing or obliterating ■ such names or numbers, or setting up any nnmes or numbers contrary to this By-law, To prevent rain water from any land or building falling on any footway. To provide for drains under footways for carrying off surplus water, To compel the construction and maintenance of crossing over footways and channels to give access to property for ho.-seß and vehicles. To prevent the discharge of any offensive matter into any street, public place, or right- ! of-way, To regulate the depositing of scaffolding building materials or obstructions in any street, right-of-way, or public place. To regulate the erection of scaffolding and depositing of building material, and the issue of licenses therefore, ami the fees to bo paid thereon. To provide for the removal of buildings and fences encroaching upon any street or public place, To prevent horses or cattle, not in harness, from being driven through any street or public place. To prevent horses, cattle, goats, and swine from being at large upon any street, etc. To prevent any trycycle, bicycle, or barrow from being driven or wheeled on any footpath. o prevent any act tending to endanger generally any person or property, or to obstruct or encumber any thoroughfare, or to impede or annoy any passenger, and to prevent any nuisance in or upon any street, public place, or right-of-way, NUISANCES. To prevent the keeping of swine within 5 chains on either side of Queen-street, or 100 ft of any dwelling house or street. To provide for the removal of night soil, garbage, and refuse matter by a licensed nightman within certain parts of the Borough, To compel the providing of proper privy accomodation, receptacles, for rubbish and garbage, and water-tight cess-pits, and for the inspection of the same. To prevent draining into or polluting any creek or watercourse, PREVENTION OF FIRES. To provide for the licensing of chimney sweeps and regulating their charges, To punish the wilful or negligent setting on fire of any chimhey or permitting it to become foul. To prevent the keeping of stacks or heaps of inflamablo material not undercover, within certain parts of the Borough. To prevent the lighting of fires in the open air, or in any building without a proper fireplace, To prevent the using or ranking of any brushwood, or any other like inflammable fence, To provido for the storage of kerosene or other dangerous or inflammable material in licensed buildings, and to fix the fees payable for such license, and provide for inspection of such building.

To fix tho fees payable for licenses for any building or enclosure to be used for any description of public amusement, meetings, ic, To prevent the establishment or carrying on of any offensive trade, except under license from the Council, To provide for the licensing of slaughterhouses, and fix the fees payable therefor, and tho inspection thereof. To provide for the licensing of hackney carI riages, drivers, and conductors, and regulating the number of passengers to be carried, 1 fees to bo paid, inspection, fareß to be charged, and general regulation. To provide for the licensing of express waggons carts, drays and vehicles for tho carriage of goods, fixing the fees payable, and charges for work performed, and general regulations thereon, providingforthe licensing of lmwkeri and pedlars fees payable, and exemptions made. • To define districts and distances within which it shall not be lawful to erect buildings with walls or roofs of infiammablematcrials, To provide for notices, plans, and specifications of buildings to bo altered, erected or renewed, To provide for the proper erection of chimneys, chimney furnaces, and fireplaces,, hearths, jambß, brests, openings, shafts, flues, ovenß, furnaces, close fire or forge, and stoves IV> recul to tho construct on of turrets, dormer, lantern fonts, or oiher erection on the ro.'f or lilt of any bul ding, and the roofs, flats and gutters and any projection therefrom. r o compel the erection ot hrick party walls and side walls in certain distances from other buildings or
