CRIMINAL ASSAULT.

Wellington, November 30, Clias. Watson lias been arrested on a charge of committing a criminal assault on a girl under 12 years of age. He was remanded till Saturday. SERIOUS CHARGE. Oam aru, Nov. 29. Arthur John Penton,a young man,aged about 19, was brought before tlio Resident Magistrate this morning, charged with committing lape on a little girl aged nine years. At the B.M, Court to-day, the charge against Patrick Ferguson, for playing the three card trick on board the l'e Anau, was dismissed, the Magistrate holding that he could not convict either under the Gaming and Lotteries Act, or the Police Offences Act. Under the former Act it had not been shown that the ship was a public place, and under the Police Offences Act, cards are not instruments of gaming, although they are under the Gaming and Lotteries Act, EDUCATION BOARD. At the Wellington Education Board mooting to-day an application fora bonus to Mra Jones of Carterton was not granted, a similar request from Mr Singer Kaiwaiwai being also refused. In reference to the notion of the Committte of the latter school in deciding to Jock up the school, and refusing to allow Mr Singer to have oharge of it, the Board instructed tho Secretary to write tc tho Committee informing them that Mr Singer was empowered by the Board to carry on the boliodl, and that the Committee had no power to look it up. An application for another teacher was consequently refused. An application from the Misterton Committee that Mr Smith should be appointed assistant teacher was granted. A similar application from the Mauriceville Committee with reference to Mrs Mcßenzie was also granted. Mrs Richardson was appointed sewinp mistress at Parkvale School, £5 was granted towards the Cross Creek school repairs. The Aohonga school is to bo brought ijnder the regulations of the Board The Secretary was instructed to ask for a site for a school at the Pahiati|a Village Settlement. The luspefitof was instructed to Report on the Wailiakeke additions. The Board could not accede, in the present ijtate of its finances, for the altera-.
