David Smyth merchant, died suddenly yesterday, falling from Ms chair while reading a took. He was formerly Chairman of the Bluff Harbour Board, and contested the Awarna seat at the election in 1881.

Bayliss, A Booth, W. Vickerstaff, A, McKehzio,-and G. W, Dcller. The minutes of the last ordinary and subsequent" special meetings were read and confirmed. : The Treasurer reported a Credit balance 0f.£13 19s 7d. Correspondence inwards was read as follows'—From Col. Secretary, re representatives to the United District Board, and also to the Wairarapa Hospital Board stating that the Council was entitled'to one member to each body. It was resolved that the Council adopt the rating act of 1882. Cr. Vickerstaff was requested to see that the concrete path apposite Mr A. L. Whyte's promises be of a proper pitch to throw the water into a water table. A discussion ensued over the question of giving the ranger notice not to interfere with oattle wandering on . the roads during thesummer months, but it was decided not to interfere with him, as he appeared to be giving general satisfaction. Mr Boyle's being the only tender for eight chains of ditching, formation, and a culvert on Rutland road, it was accepted It was decided on the recommendation of Cr Moore, that Mr Wilson have a progress payment of £6 on the" Rutland Road contract It was resolved on the motion of Cr Moore, seconded by Cr Deller, that a petition be presented to Parliament praying for a separation of tho Wairarapa district from the Wellington United Charitable Aid Board. Several accounts were passed for payment and the meeting terminated.
