MASTERTON AGRICULTURAL & PASTORAL ASSOCIATION. A General Committee meeting of the above was held in the Central Chambers on Saturday afternoon last. Present: Messrs R. S. Hawkins (President), E. Meredith, J. Raynor, D. Carman, J. Hessey, F. Gray, J. Stuckey, D. Guild, R. Meredith, J. C. Vallance, W. B. Buick, and R. Welch. Accounts amounting to £194 8s 2d were passed and ordered to be paid as soon as funds were available. PROTESTS. It was resolved that the protest entered by Mr McCartney against Mr Tancred's Premier, be not entertained, as ttafietter C does not appear in the Stud Book, against that horse's name. Mr Donald McKenzie's protest as to his filly being thrown out of section 25 on account of her age, it was decided to inform Mr McKenzie that he was labtog under a wrong impresBiqn, a™he was judged and highly commended.

With reference to the protest of ' Messrs Kibblewhite ind Cameron against MrR. Crawford in the shoeing contest, the Committee decided that the prizes should be paid in accordance with the judges award. FINANCIAL POSITION. ' < The Secretary presented the. following report on the Financial position of the Society, which was ordered to be entered on the, minutes, and the suggestions embodied therein discussed at a future meeting Sir,—ln connection with the Show on the 17th inst., I beg to submit the followisueport with an estimate of receijAjEd expenditure:—The entries amounted to .518, being an increase of 17 exhibits as against last year, the amount accruing from which is £lll 18s 7d,beicfl£lß 0s 6d in excess of the year IfgfG. Prizes in money, articles of value, and medals make a total of 1212 9s as against £lB6 7s 6d paid 1886 an increase of £26 Is 6d. The special prizes promised and included in the above amount to £127 2s. _ Total receipts (if the estimate is realised and there i 3 no reason to doubt but that it will be,) are £585 16s 3d, the estimated expenditure being £447 lis, which will leave a credit balance of £BB 5s 3d, this added to the fixed deposit of £l2O, gives tho Association the handsome sum of £2OB 5s 8d to start the next-year with. The number of members have been increased from 185 to 161. I may mention that some of the accounts such as Judges and labor have already been paid. In conclusion I would like to make a few to the committee as to the Mure management of some matters in connection with the show: 1. 'ihat as a number of people avoid paying at the gate by climbing over the fences, that the hoarding be completed and two baibed wires placed on the top, standipKmt at an angle from the fence. 2. That free passes for persons in charge of stock and exhibits be abolished, as there are strong grounds to believe that the passes are not always used for their legitimate purpose, and that in lieu thereof the entrancefees be reduced and all persons in charge of exhibits made to pay the ordinary gate money. 8. That some arrangement be made to account for the number of persons passing through the gates by a registering turnstile (if one can be procured at a reasonable rate) or some other effective means. 4. That it should be distinctly understood irMier or not a member's ticket affldits a member only, or his family. 5. That arrangements should made to have the horses tied adjacent to the show ring, as the present plan of their being fixed round the fence gives the stewards excessive labor in getting the exhibits judged 1 on account of the distance to travel to and fro. Also that there be a black board in each horse ring, and that'the Clerk in attendance notify on it ths time when each class will be judgiS® 1 wish to take this opportunity to thank the late Secretary, MrFitton, for the very valuable assistance he gave me in carrying out the Show. ; I' It was resolved that the Stewards

be written to asking them to make suggestions as to the carrying out of the next annual show. The meeting then terminated.
