MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE.
The Wellington Municipal Conference yesterday (Friday) disapproved of the principle of clauses 7 and 8 in the Auctioneers Bill. A deputation from the Conference will wait on the Premier to-day (Saturday) to lay the resolutions of the Conference before the Government. The following' suggestions from the Napier Council were considered:—The necessity of allowing Corporations to apply funds derived from one reserve to the. improvement of other reserves on the same Municipality; 2. The necessity of further providing for the sale of land to secure payment of rates; •'B. Provision for allowing Municipalties. to take over private streets, although the same may not comply with the present requirements as to the width of streets; 4', To provide that proceed of rates for special'purposes, such as water rates, may be devoted to general purposes, when any loan raised for such purpose has been paid off.-' 5. To move for the amendment of Municipal Corporations Act, so that Boroughs shall elect their cwn auditors, if so desired No.'sl and 2 were agreed to, and in reference to No. 8, the Conference did not desire to alter the Act in ■ the direction named, -but. recommend in special cases an application be made to the House for redress.';, N0,"4 was lost after discussion, and No; 5 .was-carried. - The question, as: to the 'desirableness establishing apermanentMunicipal Association wasreferred.to thevarioutf Municipal Counqila.
