This morning, at 2 o'clock, a fire at Mount Roekill road destroyed Lyell's grocery store and' dwelling, 'Fitch's drapery store and dwelling, and cottage owned and occupied by Armstrong. There was no water supply, The furniture and stook were nearly all saved. An incipient fire at Lamb's flour mills, Fort-street, was discovered early on Sunday morning, but was quenohed with little damage done. MAURIOEVILLB RO.AD BOARDThe ordinary monthly meeting of the above Boiird was held last Saturday. Present—William Jessen (Chairman) (t. Gunderaen, 0. Forsberg, J. Bannister and H. W. Jackson. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed, and correspondinwards were read as follows From Commissioner of Crown Land re expenditure of deferred payment think J, Youngson re bridge to bis section. William Cullen' re toll, H. Muckay re deferred payment thirds. Eketuhuna Road Board re Mr Gruddy's road. The following tenders were received —Contract No 11, Johansen £8 10s (accepted) Cilius Petersen £lO ss; Contract No 12, Madsen aud Johansen £5 3s (accepted) Cilius Petersen £5 ss; contract No. 13 Hansen and Martenseii £2B 15s (accepted) Madsen and Johaußen £35, Cilius Petersen 140. It was resolved to inform the Eketahnna Board that this Board was willing to undertake the expenditure of any money accruing to Mr Gruddy's Road. Resolved to again apply to the Commissioner. of Crown Lands for a state ment of Deferred Payment thirds accrued to the district.' The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £l6O 15s 63. Accounts amountingto £2014s lid were passed for .payment. ■ l|essrs Gundersen and Forsberg were appointed to sign oliequas. In accordance witb-notice given Mr G. Gundersen moved that the payment of toll bo suspended, for the snmmer months to commence on the first day of November next, provided that the Board retain the power by giving 21 hours noticp to enforce the toll in case the main 'road becomes unfit for traffio or the rail way . line between Mauriceand Mangauiahoe be blocked. The motion was seconded by Mr Jackson, and carried. The meeting then adjourned,
