THE GENERAL ELECTION.
The nomination of candidates for the coining Parliament commenced yesterday, the following being a return up to the present : Wellington South and Suburbs. - Mr John Coombe and Mr C. B. Izard, The show of hands were in favor of Mr Izard by 81 to 24. Mr Cooinbe demanded a poll. Hutt.--Mr Henry Samuel Fitzherbert and M r Thomas M ason. There were about 50 or 60 persons present, and the show of hands was—For Mason, 25 ; for Fitzherbert, 22. Mr Fitzherbert demanded a poll. Napier.-Messrs J. D. Ormond and J. Ivess have been nominated, Mr Ormond, speaking from the hustings said he was an opponent of the Ministry, and the voice of the. country at this moment showed that it' was a Government pt the past. Mr Ivess said he was a supporter of the Ministry who had done so much-for the industrial classes. An immense crowd surrounded the hustings, anil the roofs and balconies of houses' opposite were crowded. The show of hands was four to three'in favor of Mr Ormond. A poll was demanded;
Motueka.-Mr Richmond Hursthouse and Mr John Kerr have beta nominated.
Mauawatu.—Mr Douglas Hasting Macarthur and Mr Rudolph George West have been duly nominated, The show of hands resulted in favor, of Mr ; West by 78 to 55, and a poll was demanded on behalf'of Mr Macarthur. The proceedings were pretty lively. . Invercargill.-Messrs J, Hatch, J, VW Mitchell, H. Jaggers,; H. Foldwick, and 0. W.. Tanner have been nominated. A poll was demanded by Mr Hatoh.. Mr Mitchell only announced himself to-day.
Ghristchurch North.—Sir Julius Vogel and Mr H. Roberts were, duly nominated, The show of hands was; Vogel, 45; Roberts, 15. A poll was demanded, About 150 persons were present.
Selwyn.-Messrs Hall and Lachlan have been nominated. The show of hands was in favor of Mr Hall. A poll was demanded.
Cheviot.—Messrs Lance and Maclarlance. The show of hands was in favor of Mr Lance. A poll was demanded.
