was hold on Saturday afternoon last at Carterton, Mr E; M. D. Whatman in tho chair. "It was decided to play the return match with the Wollmgton Union at Groytuwu on Saturday next, the Greytown members of tho Union being appointed a reception committee for the occasion. About twenty < players turned up, but could not be induced to iacu' (he sleet and wind, with Bovoial inches of mud' underfoot, In weather that was simply abominablo . —Wind, rain, hail, and enow—tho final tio for. the Wairarapa Junior •Cup, was played (1) on Saturday afternoon betwoen . the Bed Stars and the To Ore Ore teams and resulted in the fuvuicr abandoning tho match after playing om- cpell of forty Afive minutes, allowing the Maorics there--7 fore to take the cup. The ground was a perfect quagmire, mud' ancle deep, and mainiature lakes-liberally dotted over its surface, An effort was made by the Ked Stars to postpone tho match but the To Ore Ore oaptain,. relying on his superior _ scrimmaging, power, ■ determined to play. The Maorics, with the wind in their favor, were able to force.their opponents behind tho line, and were credited with two tries, both of which, with a 'Referee having tho qjjjftcst knowledge of the gamo, would rJRr have been allowed, These decisions, combined with tho oxtremo cold weather, had such .a disheartening effect upon the hoys, that they wisely decided tu.leavo their opponents in full possession* of the fiold. .
