And 202 other Electors of the Wood* ville District, • fIENTLEMEN,I sincerely thank you for the honor.you have conferred upon me, by asking me to allow myself to be nominated at tho approaching General Election to represent you in Parliament. In reply, I have to state that I will contest the election against all comers, and if elected I would support a Government introducing measures to tho following effect :—. Economy and retrenchment in overy branch of tho Civil Service, and the amalgamation of Offices. Tho reduction of tho honorarium, and of the number of mombersof both Houses. The completion of the railway to Paltneraton, and the construction of the line to Auckland, and- tho extension of i.ho line from Ekotaluma to Pahiatua. The oponiug up of Crown lauds, and the acquisition of Nativo Lands for settlement The cessation of borrowing except for tho works mentioned, uutil the finances of the colony have been placed on a sound footing. Tho amendment of the Laud Act, .by the repeal of the Perpetual Loasiug system, and by giving greater facilities for selectors to take up Deferred Payment Lauds. The ropeal of Property Tax and the introduction of a Land and Income Tax. The amendment, of the Education Reserves Act to enable the Government to use the rovenuo from tho Reserves for Secondary Education for the purpose of Primary Education. Tlie reform of the presaut system of railway management. I shall address tho Electors, at all the ceutres 'of settlement ■throughout the district on dates to bo advertised, when you will find me supporting truo Liberal measures, and that my knowledge' of the district enables me to form reliable opinions on tho subject of your local requirooipts. The continuance of the existing liberal land laws, and tho expansion of tho special and village settlement systems. ' 5. ' . 6. .Abolition of tho Upper House. 7. decentralisation ; the restoration of the proper functions of local Government so that log rolling in the Legislature may disappear, - and the duties of the Public Forks Department may be distributed among the settlors and localities concerned. ■ . 8. A. system of vigorous retrenchment; under which ornate but übolcbs branches of the civil service will receivo skilful attention and state pensions shall gradually cease.
