JUBILEE CELEBRATION.
A meeting of the General Committee ; of the Masterton Jubilno Celebration was held last evening ( Wednesday) in tlio CentrafUhambera, Mr T, Mackay in the chair. Letters wero read from the Master. :ton School Committee stating that the sum of £3O duo to the .School picnic fund would bo handed . over to the Jtibileo Celebration Committee. ; From Druids Lodge stating that Mr Carey ! had been appointed to represent their Lodge. From the Chairman Mauriceville- Koad Board stating that the-. ' Board; would be unable' : 'tp take part/ aud thanking the Committee for their courtesy. From the Chairman ,of the Fernridge (School Committee stating that circumstances would- notalffiw of ! tlw children attending as a school, and : taking part in the Mr S. Von Sturwer, enclosing\cheque of £2 2s towards the celebration funds. From the Clerk of the Borough Coun- "1 cil giving permission to/erect triuraph- : ial arches in the town, tinder the super' vision of Conncillor It was resolved'that aii advertisement be inserted in the papers soliciting the assistance of the ladies of '' Masterton towards providing the treat for the children of the town. ~ Messrs Nicol, Carey, Sellar, Owen, and the clergy of - Masterton. were appointed to act ju; conjunction 'with the Ladies Committee in providing the children's treat. , y It. was decided that,, one good-"-'* Triuinpbial Arch becrected instead of four an previously -resolved, and that it be placed opposite the hank of New ■Zealand, Queen-streot. .Mr Caselberg offered to lend a lurgu flag-to the committee for the centre oi the.arch, which was accepted with thanks-, A decoration committee was consisting of Messrs I'iraßcii,' J ago, Colter, -H. William's; Lammsei- 1 pen, Macam, aiid 1). Piolccriug. 1 The Mayor informed the meeting, on behalf of tho Borough' Council that they could' use as inuoh'gas as.thoy required at the usual rates,. (Laughter). He said the Council would render what assistance they could, his they had not | the power to give freo uso,ot- the coinj modity. Ho would however, subscribe to : the arch being illuminateJ with gas. Tlie following subscriptions were 1 offered towards the arcli illuminatioa : —The.Mayor 2l3,ilesarsl|ftcara, H. Williams, W. H, Beethani, and W. I Perry 10s each. It waa rcsQlved that tho arch,be illuminated with.gas, uudcr - the supervision of the Decoration ! Committee, who were' requested to | meet on Thursday evening. ) 6th inst. [at 7.30 It was also resolved that tho | ball be held in tho Drill Shed, aud that Mr Whitt's offer to supply screens and furniture for. 25s ho accepted," It was reßolved that,the bullock be routed in Mr Dalrymple's paddock, Hall-stAet. The Secretary was requested to communicate with Mr G. Be'otliam M.H.R. with a view to train-amngemehtfl on Jubilea Day 21st inafc, Mr Pelling's. tender for catering for one thousand children at 6d per • head, ta supply tea/buns, tarts, lollies, sandwiches, and cakes was accepted, also his tender for the fancy and plain dress ball altering. Mr J. Thompson's tender for the supply of cordials, itc.,forthe tall was accepted, A tender for the supply of music for the ball was received from * the Volunteer Bahd far a'suin 'of. 18. It \vuß decided that fresh tenders for ' music be invited. That tbo Costumo Footballers be asked to joiu in the procession. That the Coramitee give thoir patronage tothe DramaticGlub'Bontertaihment in the Theatre Royal on Wednesday and' Thursday the 22nd .and 23rd inst, The publishing of the programme was left in the bands of the Secrrftty, Chairman, and Mr L. J. Hooper,TT Mesrs W. Perry J, Ross, and were appointed a' roasting • Committee to fiuporeotending the roasting; of tbo bullock. ■ . It was decided that a supply of bread and potatoes be obtained to. eat with the beef, and Mr Dairy tuple offered lOj towards the supply. Several minor matters were left in the bauds of [the Secretary and the meeting adjourned, . •
