. [united press association] , HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Friday, June 10. The House met at 11 o'clock. The Minister for Public Works stated that Members' passes on the railway would he valid until the date of dissolution. In reply to Mr W. C. Smith, ..the Minister of Lands said that Members would receive the earliest possible intimation as to any alteration of the electoral boundaries of their respective districts. In reply to Mr Buchanan as to the arrangements for payment and perpetual lease systems through the postoffices, the Minister for Lands said that such arrangement had already been made at the various offices, and the system would be extended as tho public convenience required.: In reply to Mr Beetham, as to tho advisability of discontinuing the addition of five miles to the tariff charges on the Wellington-Woodville line, the Minister of Public Works said that the working of the incline section cost £OOOO, and that for the present the Minister could not recommend the reduction. Mr Fisher gave notice to move on the re-assembling of Parliament, That it is desirable to revise the tariff so as to encourage local industries without increasing the aggregate taxation of the country. In answer to Mr Fitzherbert as to the advisability of altoring the present route down the summit by the Masterton railway line, the Minister of Public Works was understood to say that the question was being considered by the department, and that a deviation was proposed on the Wellington side of the Riinutaka which would not cost much, while it would affect a great saving in cost. In answer to Mr Buchanan that firewood trucks may be loaded at Gross' Creek siding,' the Minister said to do so would be to endanger the public safetyi and the • demand for the' concession was not such as to justify the expense. Replying to the same lion, member as to the Jubilee holiday for railway and other employees of Government being conceded them at a later date than enjoyed by others in the ordinary course, the Minister for Public Works was understood to say that such concessions would be made as tho exigencies of tile-public services admitted. Tho Minister for Public Works, in reply to Mr Fitzherbert, said that now, of course, no sum could be placed on the estimates for straighteniug the line between Wellington and Petone, but such an alteration was highly desirablo, and would be pressed on the Department in due course. The Treasurer refused to entertain Mr Beetham's proposal to tax tickets for theatrical and other amusements. In reply to Mr Beetham as to the location of the railway lino through the Pahialua district, the Minister for Public Works said tin petition of the sottlersin the matter would receive every consideration. In reply to Mr Ross as to the intention of Government to subscribe to the Imperial Institute, tho Premier said tho next Parliament would now have to deal with that matter. The House adjourned at 1 o'clock to 2.80. On resuming, the House disagreed with the Government Loans to Local Bodies Bill as amended by the free conference of both Houses, and the Bill was dropped.? At five o'clock Parliament was prorogued to July Bth, by a commission composed of Messrs Waterhouse, Reynolds, Bailh'o, and Buckley,
