JUBILEE CELEBRATION.
In response to an inritation by circular a number of gentlemen met at the Occidental Hotel, Masterton, last evening |, (Tuesday) to consider what steps should fbo taken to celebrate the Jubilee in Masterton. Mr T. Mackay was voted to tho chair, The following rcsohiiions were adopted after discussion: —That the Queen's Jubilee be suitably celebrated in Masterton. That with the object of carrying out the foregoing resolution a Committee be formed with power to add to their number. The following gentlemen present were appointed a Committee, viz., Messrs A. W. How, J. Macaro, W. Terry, J. ,]. Smith, L. J. Hooper, J, I\ T icol, Voight, A. Kutxncr, J. Kutzner, Langensoinen, T. Mackay, E. Jones, and 11. Phillips. The names of Messrs G. licctham, M.H.R.. 8. Von, Sturmer, R.M., and His Worship the Mayor were added to the Committee. A meeting of the committee was held subsequently, when the following resolutions were adopted :—That Mr 15. Jones be secretary. That Messrs Mauara, Hogg, Nicol and Hooper be a committee to canvas the town and induce i.tiier gcntlomen to act on tho committee and to become guarantee.! for any expenses that may not be covered by the proceeds of the celebration. 1 hat a meeting of the Committee be held on Friday next, 10th teinst.. at the Central Chambers, at 7.80 Span. Letters were read from His Wor- ■ ship the Mayor and Messrs J. C. Walker, andW. Wardell, apologising for their absence, and promising to iitsist in Hie colcbration. It«as resolved to add the names of Messrs J. 0. Walker, W. Wardol), and A. V. Renal] to tho committee, That four triumphal arches he erected, with suitable inscriptions thereon, at the following places :—opposite Occidental Hotel, Post Office, Club Hotel, and the Upper I'laiii road. That the Friendly Societies, Fire Brigades, Volunteers, and the two Lands be atJud to march in procession on the 21st inst. That the local bodies and two Lodges of Freemasons be asked to join in tho procession, T.ia' in the evenim; o the Jubilee day celebration there should be held a mud plain and fancy dress ball, the proceeds of which, after pa)ii:g all expenses, to go to the fundi! of the hospital. ThalMcssis Hooper, Phillips, and Mackay be a sub-commit tee to arrange for the Hall and tickets. That this committee ask the Masterton and District
