Mr Dargaville brought up the reconsideration of the Local Industries Committee report, which was to the effect that the correspondence laid Jtafore committee be not printed. jfa Major Atkinson said he had had communication with the Premier ■■oil the difficulties in which the house was placed, with a view to some joint action. Ho would move, as lie understood with the Premier's consent, that the House, should adjourn to naif-past seven p.m., in the hope that some means might be found out of difficulties. It was necessary, however, that they should have the answer of the Governor to the address before they adjourned.
Sir Robert Stout agreed to the adjournment. As lie had said before, the Government were exceedingly anxious that the elections should be hold under the now Hill, but it was impossible to do that by the time fixed by Major Atkinson in his resolution. His opinion was that the 4th clause should be struck out and fho 3rd clause be amended. He would facilitate any motion by the opposition in that direction, but he should not suggest this, as he would be accused of trying to stop the Bill. After a lengthy discussion the house at 4.5 p.m. adjourned iill half past 7. In the House this evening a message was read from the Governor, stating that lie could not consent to Major Atkinson's resolution carried last night insisting on the elections being held by September Ist, as it was impossible under the new Act.
