ALFREDTON ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of this Board was hold on Tuesday, the 21th May, when tho following members wcro present:— Messrs Cross, Kobbell, Benton, and Smith, Tim returning officer rcportod tho result of tho annual election, and $ stated that the first business was tho election of a chairman for tho ensuing year, whereupon Mr Kobbell was duly proposed and seconded as chairman, and took his seat, when the following business was proceeded with:—The minutes of the last meeting wore read and confirmed, Inwards correspondence was read as follows: From the Colonial Treasurer, approving of the special order making or levying special rates for repayment of proposed loan, borrowed under the provisions of the " Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1880", From the same in refercnee to debentures issued by the Masterton Road Board for a loan, borrowed under the provisions of the "Roads and Bridges Construction Act," for tho formation of the Alfredton District Eoad, and stating that theso are still payable- by the former Board. It was resolved to request to be informed of the computed amount after conversion of this loan, and requesting that the debt be inscribed in the name of the Boards Chief Surveyer, with verified sub-divisional boundaries. From same further on the same subject. From County Clerk, witli copy of roll for the Alfredton Ruling, to lie for inspection. From same, acknowledging memo of alterations in the Valuation 801 l for tho Eoad District, From same, wilh- . ■ drawing memo from the Council, and suggesting that the Road' Board should levy the maximum general rate. From Mr Hewitt objecting lo proposal road lino through his section unless compensated. From Chas. G, Good, 1.:. reminding the Board of his claim for ■ metal a.nd opening up pit. Resolved 7\ to eompensp.te. Mr Good for metal taken, but disallowing claim for opening up pit, From Henry Dunn, with copy of resolutions passed at n meeting of Mttlers on tho" TaWnt?J,i road, r« expenditure of deferred payment mouios. Resolved to submit the propo«ole for approval of Land Board, so : •, far as the, same refer to the instalment now duo, and excluding sections belonging to Arthur Burling. Public nolico was read -and special orien, wero made subdividing the district, fixing tho boundaries and representation of each subdivision, and making Bpccial rates for ropjvmeut of loan? ■.■'.• under the "Government Loans to Local Badics Act, 1886." Resolved BWp"' to request the Masterton Board to forHr ward in circular of 18th January last, :■• and referred to by the Colonial Treasurer. The unauthorised deviation of the location of the Ihawaua Valley road was settled by the Engineer agreeing (o a deduction of £'l 10s and tho Board pitying il for £ 1 lo the petitioner's contribution. Resolved that tho Government be written to asking their intention regarding opening up the road intended as an outlet for the Crown Lauds about to be thrown open, with a view to joint action at tho western end if possible. The question of the School Commissioners' unpaid rates and unsatisfied judgment, and the unsatisfactory position of the entire matter was considered with the result that the ques- • tion was left in the hands of the Collector with power, also rates in grig, arrear, with it view to getting the full Government subsidy. It was resolved that as tho subdividing of the district renders a fresh election necessary, that the present Board be dissolved, that the said dissolution come into force on _ the lßt August next, and that the frosh elections be held during the first week of August, The next meeting of the Board was fixed for tho first Tuesday of July.
