MASTERTON SCHOOL.
The ordinary, monthly meeting of the Masterton'Sshool Committee- was held in the Institute last evening (Thursday). Present— Messrs Boddington (Qhairmau) Hogg, Cullen, and Mctwen,' T.(ie minutes of the last meeting \7ore read and confirmed and the Treasurer reported a credit balance of £32 3s 2d.. Letters were read from • Dr Beard stating that very few caeca of measles bad come underhis notice in Master-
ton recently. From tho Education Board confirming Miss Jnpp'g appointment as Mistress of the Infant's school, and statiug that the board and case] applied for would have to bo purchased out of the capitation money of •the ■ Committee. It was decided to obtain tbem locally as they were greatly needed at the side-sohool
The Secretary of the Board wrote, intimating that any recommendation of the Mastertqa School Committee for extra teaching staf would be submitted to tho Board,' a? the number pn the roll now entitles tbem" to an extra pupil teacher. The Chairman stated that Miss Bagge had been doing the work of asjistant pupil teacher for the past ten months gratuitously, and had gmn every satisfaction to the head master. Sbo had about 40 children under her care, and appeared in every way competent for the .'appointment. ; :;. It was resolved,, on' the motion of Mr McEwen, seconded by Mr Cuilen,
"That Miss Bagge be recommended to., ?■ the Bourd for the appointment of pupil ,/. : '- teacher, with a request that tho Board-,.. would consider her claims, foi a bonus for past services." Volunteers bad a 21 years lease, and would let the committee have it on the same favorable terms that they havo it from the Town Lauds Trust and-- ho jhad no doubt that at the end of tbb' lease an extension of time could' be /obtained. He mentioned this so that: the .Board might be made acquaiuted#itl» the favorable opportunity oMtairiing the adjoining land to the' Hall-street site.
