We understand that at'a meeting, of the committee of the Masterton Pastoral and Agricultural Association held on Saturday last, Mr R. S. Hawkins, the -President,.- intimated that he would shortly be a candidate .'for the representation of the electoral district of Wairarapa North, and that he would place his resignation as President of the Association in the hands of its members, as the political position in which he. would be placed I might create antagonism to the association in certain quarters. ■ Whatever opinion may be entertainod of Mr R. B..Hawkins ; a-s apolitical candidate, his action in-offering to resign his presidency 6f.the : 'Pastorol' Association mil be generally approved, Occasionally, a certain amount of bitterness is generated by political and party war-' 'fare,'which.affects other interests; but .we hope to see the contest for the Wairarapa'North seat decided without prejudice to the interests, of our local Pastoral Association. Mr Hawkins' offer to resign is aiv honorable proposal, but we do not consider that it is necessary to accept it on the ground upon which he bases it. He has done his duty 'as President of the Association and we should by sorry to see him •lose an honor which he has fairly won, from any political cause.
