ALFREDTON ATHLETIC CLUB.

(Tp tiie Editor), Sir,—l n.otipe jn your Daily of April 18th a letter fron) Cyclops f The Alfredton ("ossip" and I luuafc take exception to some of his remarks as far as the AilikticClub is concerned. As fur as 1 can see ho does bear a grudge against the Club, else why is lie sojvery mean;i:id spiteful in liisremarks, wliat concern is it of his because a a cricketer diosea to wear his coat 1 If Cyclops hu j to lie in the sliado on a warm day it does not follow that others should do the same, some people prefer beiug iu tli« sun. Cyclops accuses the Club or match committee of putting duffers in the first eleven, but I think Alfredtou had as strong an I eleven qs they could pick on the occasion of the Tinui match, and I defy him to prove to the contrary. There were rio better players on the ground that day, and in uny case betakes good care not to mention who were the wonderful players who were out in the cold. I should very much like to have the names of a few, as the match committee aro, I ana convinced, perfectly unawareof their existence. With regard to other matches, we had in the

roturn match at Tinui a vory good team. In the Masterton match had only six of the picked men, the rest of the toara consisted of an emergency man and four substitutes. The next match at Eketahuna was muoh the same, only six picked man, three emergencies, and two substitutes, In the return match played here on the 11th April, only nine out ot the picked eleven were present, the other two being picked out of those present) so that I think in most of our later matches the result is owing in a great, measure, to those picked not putting in an appearance, and also to the fact of the members, not having practised for a long interval, some members seem to be of the opinion that if two or three practices together that is all that is necessary, but I am of the opinion that until the eleven turn out and practice together they will never win auy matches, and it is unreasonable to expect any other result. In conclusion, 1 should bo very glad if Cyclops would give me a list of his good players, so that I c;iy lay them before the match Committee next season. In the meantime 1 hope Cyclops will take my advice and find out next tiuia what is what, before he plunges headlong into things he evidently knows nothing about, all I have to say is that I aui sorry that any member of the Club should join and then run it down, its not ths way to make things any better, if members have any complaints to make, the proper place is at the general meetings of the Club, and not through | the medium of the local papers. I am, etc,, Secretary to the i Alfredton Athletic Club.
