Tuesday. In the Legislative Council a letter was riad from Wnnganui, callini' attention to a flower which had been found,' fatal •to the codliu moth and other insects. Tho Address in Reply was presented to His Excellency the Governor at 3 p.m. Tho Pharmacy Act Amended Bill was read a first time . Mr Buckley moved the Becond reading of the Legislative Council Speaker's Bill; and said it had been thought necessary to bring it in, in 'conscqnonce of a diiliculty infilling tho position rotidurcd vacant by; Mr Fitzherbert'B attendance at tho Conference at London. • Dr Pollen opposed it as being unnecessary. The Constitution Act gave powor to fill up the vacancy, and, as all worn agreed on Mr Waterhouse's appointment', it WBB not required m auy respect. MrtMoLean supported Dr Pollen and moved that the Bill be'read that day, six months,.''. Messrs Oliver, Shopherd and Grace spoke against the Bill. Amotimub'f adjournment was carried by 20 to 4, Dr Pollen aaying that after tho expressions of opinion,'the Govern-' oent ought to see fit to withdraw the Bill Tho Council rose at 5 p.m.;
