There is little clutnce of saving the romaindcr of the building. The damage is estimated at between thirty and forty thousaud pounds. Very little was aired oxcept the mails and.a low telephones. • All the telegraphic instruments ; too destroyed. Accounts as to ' origin aro very conflicting. The • fire .was discovered by a woman coming to clean up, vrlio asserts it appeared to lie in tho centre of the. building, where the new oloetric light. apparatus is being erected, The lire spread with great, rapidity, and although the building was of brick, the two top storeys were one mass of . flames within an 'hour and half of the ■ outbreak.
