(united press association.)

Auckland, April 25. A house of 15 rooms at North Shore, owned ami occupied by Mr James Caldwell and family, was destroyed by firo last night, with its contents. The supposed cause was the bursting of a kerosene lamp, which was left alight. All the household wore absent, but had not been long away when Mrs Thompson, living next door, observed a flash through the window, followed by a loud report, evidently caused through tho explosion of a kerosene lamp in the dining room. In a remarkably short space of timo fire had broken through the lower portion of the building, and having tho top story to feed upon, travelled with amazing rapidity. The damage done exceeds the insurance, which is £BOO on the building in the South British, aud <£sso on llio buildiugin tho Royal.
