THE JUBILEE.

A meeting was held on Friday evening in the Town Hall, Carterton, to consider the best method of oelebratmg the anniversary of the Queen's Jubilee on the 20th June next, Mr R. Fairbrother occupied the chair, and opened the proceedings by reading the advertisement convening the meeting, and making some suitable romarks on the question. Mr W. Booth spoke of the advance in science and commerce, and the great and lasting benefit of the telegraph, a'nd railways which had all been aobieved during Her Majesty's reign, and further referred to tlie advancement of social purity during her term as compared with the. reigns of the four George's, and concluded by calling on tljo settlere generally to take the matter in hand in a manner that would ensure a decidedly successful demonstration, It was moved by Mr Parker, and seconded by .Mr 6, M. Gardener, that the members of the Town Board and the Chairmen of the County Council ■W& JRoad Board and Mr F, W. E. Bed be appointed a committee in conjunction with the members, of the "'Friendly Societies" to cany out'the' necessary arrangements in the manner • as they might think most conducive to its success. A conversation arose as to how the surplus (if any) should be spent, but the Chairman in. a humorous speech said it would be time enough to talk; of thai, after the demonstration. !
