Telegrams have been received by the owners of the schooner Marion which states that the vessel capsized and-sank in Havelock Channel, in Cook Strait, on Monday last. , Capt, Larsen and crew got ashore safely, and set about operations to float the vessel. Yesterday afternoon they wired that , she was pumped out, and that as no damage was done she would sail for Lyttleton with timber, Fourteen tenders have been received for the new Custom House, ' The amounts are not disclosed, but will be forwarded to Wellington. A four-roomed house • in Central street, Ponsonby, was burned down last night. The house was unoccupied and belonged to Mr Lee. The Southern delegates to the Grand Lodge of Oddfellows returned to-day. Curistchubcu, March 16. Before Justice Johnston this afternoon, J. M. Twomoy, proprietor of the Temuka Leader, was proceeded against for contempt of Court by commenting on an action pending between Messrs Ivess and Kerr, of Timaru. Twomey"filed an affidavit to the effect that he had erred in this matter. It was unintentional. He was ordered to pay the costs, no other fine being inflicted. Dunedin, March 17. Dalgoty & Co. avo advised by cable that the ship Westland is not much damaged, and that her cargo has been landed in good order. It is reported that David' White, a Maori, had been drowned whilofishing at the heads. Feuding, March 17. Considerable dissatisfaction is expressed here'that the holiday cheap fare privileges on the WellingtonManawatu Railway were not extendod to the Feilding districts to-day, Auckland,- March 18. Last night, shortly before midnight a block of buildings were destroyed by fire. It originated in an unoccupied shop and dwelling, and destroyed two houses and three shops. One house was owned by Mr Piatt, and the other buildings to Mr Porter. The total damage amounts to £IOOO. The insurances on Porter's block is £560, and Piatt's cottage £150; all in the South British. The cutter Whangarei belonging to Mr J. Ryan, of Auckland, went ashore at the Great Barrier yesterday, and became a total wreck, All hands were saved. Auckland, March 17. Search parties have been out looking for James Simpson, who disappeared from Cambrige, but could not find the slightest trace of him. He had the keys of the safe of Lewis and Simpson's store when he left, The safe was opened and everything found straight. His life is insured in the Australian Mutual Provident for £SOO, and in the Mutual of Victoria for £BOO.
