The fire was checked .at Good's jeweller's'shop, which, with Adam's stationer's shop, was gutted. . \ Tip Day (Tuesday) ' Another fire broke-put at 11 o'clock' last night* which destroyed Stevenson's stables, and Winter & -Haigli's stables. March 7. ' A fire at 1 o'clock this, morning' destroyed William Smith's music store arid billiard-room., The premises were'ihsured in the South British for£lso, and the billiard table and musical instruments are supposed to be insured elsewhere. Everything was destroyed. Tlio origin of the fire is unknown. An inquest is suggested. Auckland, Maroh 7.' , .Yesterday afternoon, Panama House A wooden • building of 12 rooms in Lower Symoads'Street,. was destroyed by firo. Mr 0. P. Newcombe, who occupied the house, .left at 10 a.m., with his family for ohuroh, -and had not returned when the fire broke out. An examination showed the chimney of the kMeii was badly constructed, and may have caused the fire.' Several houses in the. vioinity of St Andrews High Sohool took fire, but the flames were soon quenched. The -firemen worked splendidly, and two of them.. George Bays .and .William Wait© sustained The insurances are not yet known. '
