(United Press Association.) , Ham-era, Fob; 10. ■ Judgment was given to-day in an important case at the Native Land Court. Ah application was made by a' Native dissatisfied with the Reserve Trustees' allocation of interests on the West Coast Settlement reserves, to have'his interest in a reserve cutout. He claimed an area corresponding with the share of. the rents he had been in the habit.of.recoiving before the allocation by the Eeserve Trustee. The application was resisted by the trustee, on the ground that his allocation was final and conclusive; but counsel for > the applicant attacked the validity of the. whole work of tho trustee •affecting • lands of very considerable value. After taking time to consider the questions raised, the Court to-day held that the action of the trustee was right, and refused the application, Blenheim, February 10.
The Education Board has to adopt the recommendation of Inspector Hodgson that the girls, and boys' departments be continued under the headmaster. The Board resolved that the girls be formed into separate schools, and applications for the post of head mistress be called for. This step is the result of three years'' disputes and scandals at the borough schools, during which the Board and Committee have been ; frequently iji collision. The Board now accedes lo the Committee's ■ wishes. Notice of motion was given to reduce the headmaster's salary. Timabu, February 10. . Bradley's Orari Hotel was burned down on Tuesday night, The insurance on the building was £IOOO in the National and £ BSO in the Australian Mercantile Union. The furniture was insured for £BOO and the stock for 180 in the United. Auckland, Fob. 10. , At the Devonport Steam Ferry Co.'s annual meeting to-day, a dividend of per cent was declared. Mr Justice Ward goes South to-day by the Mararoa ; to his estate in South Canterbury,, where he will enjoy a period of relaxation after his very onerous official duties in Auckland. He will attend the sittings of the Appeal Court on Bth March in Christchurch, to consider the reserved legal point in tho Cain murder case. The . unemployed agitation has again been started here. A meeting was held this morning,' and another takes place to-night. It is stated that a large number of men who are out tof work are willing to go on the land if proper facilities are offered. < ( ' Rapier, Feb. 10. The temperance party made no movement in the licensing elections. The old committee, originally nominated on the publican ticket, and who have sat for three years, were re-elected without opposition; New Plymouth, Feb. 10. The harbor dredge, which has
recentlybeen built, was 'launched this morning. MissCarrington christened it the Thomas ling.
Wanganui, Feb. 10. The hearing of the chargb against Dr Connolly has occupied the court all day, and has been adjourned until to-morrow. Three Justices of the Peace sat on the 'Bench, and the case was heard with closed doors.
