The Wairarapa Daily. TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 1887. THE EDUCATION BOARD ELECTION.

Tbbm m 110 leß9 than-ton candidates' nominated for the three : vacant seats, at tho Education Board, .vizi, Mam. Buchanan, Bunriy, Fitzhe'rbert, Frazer, Groer, Lowes, McCardle,. Pharazyn, Speedy, and Jarnec Tayler,' Out of the ten, singularly enough no less than nine are residents in country districts, aiid one only, Mr Frazer, is a city candidate. Wairarapa South contributes three candidates to the list, Wairarapa North two, Porirua two, and the Hutt distriot a einnlar

number. The voting will bo split up so much by local, considerations that it is hard to say what will be the result of the ballots amongst the Committees. We do not believe that Porirua will place either of its candidates, although one of them, Mr ■James Frazer, is a good man. Mr Frazer, of Wellington, stands a' good chance of a seat; and in the Hutt dis-.

frict Mr Fitzherbert is a pretty .certain candidate. Of the 'three'Wairarapa South candidates Messrs Buchanan and. C. Pharazyn are undoubtedly the best men, but we expect to see Mr Bunny poll more, votes than Mr

Rmrazyn. The two candidates for Win Jiriipa North," Messrs Lowes'and McC'arctle, may poll well, but we scarce!) expect to see them beat Messrs Frii?or,'Biicliiman, and Fitzherber,. The Coui'nittee'i, apart from the local con.-iidemtions, which -will, no doubt, determine the election, have a choice of several public men, whose character, experience, and attainments specially qualify them for the position whioh-thev seek. If any Committee is in' doubt as to which candidates should .be returned we would advise them to'pick the best men, not for one particular section of the Eduoptional district, but for the Educational district' as a whole. If they do this the result will he honorable to them, and beneficial to the cause of Education generally. If they return first-class men, they may depend upon justice being done to their own schools whether such men live at Porirua, Wellington, the Hutt, or in fcho Wairarapa,
