MR BEETHAM AT TAUERU.
Mr Beetham held a very successful meeting in the Taueru schoolhouse last evening. About sixty persons were present. Mr Eoberfc Donald occupied the chair.
Mr Beetham referred at some length to'"the subjects dealt; with at previous meetings, throughout "the electorate, and expressed' himself strongly of opinion .that the numbor of members of the House of .Representatives should be diminished, and every economy, exercised in legislative and Departmental .-expenditure. He considered that while all-possible econornonies should be camed ; ; ; 6ufc.in the education system, technical education sliqMd' be. foetered.' ■' Healso considered that Sir' Robert Stout's economical tendencies should have been evi-. denoed when the District Railway. Purchased Measure was forced throughthe Legislature. He held that Mr Ballance'a seheme of taking private land for settlement should not be, undertaken while Crown Lands remained unsettled upon. He thought such empirical schemes would have the effect of driving away capital. He congratulated the Taueru 'district in its increase of population, as. proved 'by tlie attendance at the meeting. He expressed dissatisfaction with, the' Nativo Land Administration Act, -and concluded by .thanking the electors for their presence. Mr H. Te Huki expressed ,the Natives satisfaction at the speaker's statement. ' A vote of thanks was. moyed by Mr Garrett, seconded by Mr Neilson/'arid carried...- ' ' ! :: '." A vote of thanks to, the Chairman concluded ..the largest meetiiig'-ever held at the Taueru.' .;■'""'
