MUNICIPAL.
The first meeting of the new Borough Council under. the ward system was ' hel'dih the/council Chambers last evening, .resent—His Worship the Mayor (Mr M. Caselbergj and the following newly-elected Councillors—W. Perry, T. E. Chambeilain, W. Cullen, D. Carman. S. E. Gapper, D. S. Papwortb, E,'E, Chamberlain, T. Parsons, J. Hessey, A. A. Elkius, J. Muir and T.G.Mason. • The Town Clerk announced the result of the elections for Councillors, and they having made the usual'declar-' j ations took their seats, . The Mayor congratulated the old Councillors on their re-election and expressed a hope that the business would be conducted in the future lis' in 1 the past, which had given thorough ; satisfaction, and caused no reason'for i complaint.. '

In Committee,
The Coanoil then went into Com,' mifctee to consider the appointment of a manager for the Gas Works. Twelve applications were received arid the question was referred to the new Gas Committee to report at next meeting. The election of new Committees were also considered in Committee with the following results.—
