: CHHisicnriECH, January 14, Dr Russell and Mrs Rowern were committed for trial, this afternoon on a charge of procuring aboition on the latter. '_ Not much that is new was elicited in the evidence, except that Dr Russell in (the Hospital said it: was • better for liiin to die than to disgrace a hunted 'families,'...' Amon g' his papers was found an anonymous loiter warning him that Mrs Bowern would ; doubtloss visit him as. she had .'done 'More,- Further'evidence stated -that about twelve'months ago she got into trouble with a gentleman who had gone to England, that Dr Russell performedthe operation on her, whioh resulted in abortion, and charged her £lolos. About five months ago she wrote to him to do a similar thing but. he refused. Mrs North who gave evidence with imwilhngness, said that Mrs Bowera had told her of her trouble, saving that the child, or whatever had been taken from her, had been burnt, that another child—the ser'vant's—had been also burnt, and that one of. these- was alive. Dr Russell was also committed for trial for pro-, curing abortion on Kate Fisher.. Jane Richards, who was accused 'with him, was discharged. It appears that Fisher went to be confined at Richards', where Dr Russell became intimate with her. Finding she was pregnant again he performed the operation on her, but Richards knew nothing of it. The case of Kate Connelly will be taken to-morrow.
