_ The teacher in one of our intevme* diate schools one day last week had* lesson in language, giving for the subject the word "Boy,".tho scholars to write out what they could about the subject,. and;this' 'without ..assistance and wilhoat.any tim'3, for-preparation. Following are two specimens of the "compositions," written.by twoßmall boys, 6ni9 and one 10 years of age. A boy is .a biped animal, one to three feet high.. Some boys are wise, intelligent, dull, bad, good, kind, gentle, cross, unkind, stupid, etc..;.' Some boys aw rerykmd to their brothers and sisters. \ly brotheris very kind to me. Some
boys grow up to be groat mean, soma mayors of cities, and some own great mills and stores. Boys who study I when they are small become the Igreatestmen. .Some boys who do not I jnot Btody when, they are young grow \ are poor, and have to goQjt with | j'a pickax and sfcovel, shovelling oakthe • gutters and streets. Holidays .Borne'---jboys sell lemonade and iced cream and jpme such things as I Have mentioned \andeftrn lots of money. Last' fourth if July I had a ; lemonade ream stand and earnpd lots of money, iomo bojslearn how'to swim and soma save lives. Some boys steal tbingsand get arrested, and their parents bayS to bail tbemout. Some boys areoruel to .animals. Some boyscome to.school With shoesjmd stockings off. their W.
