GAS EXPLOSION IN AUCKLAND.

Auckland, Jainary 10. An explosion of ga; occurred in the Bank of L\w South AValej last night abo.it 9 o'clock, by which two clerks, b\ N. von Stiiriner an:l W. von Simmer wore b u-ned. S. i\ T . von Stunner who is a ledger keeper, and resides in the Bank, returned from a stroll with his cousin, and on entering the side door detected strong fames of gas, evidently coming from the strong room. He unlocked the strong-room door, and procured a light to ascertain where the leak was, and, on entering, the candle ignited the gas, and the e (plosion 1 took place. . The two men were considerably singed about the neck and hands, and also slightly about the face, but, fortunately, not very seriously. Dr Haines was soon in attendance. He dressed the burns, and ordered the removal of the men to the Hospital. The force of the explosion was very great, a3 it extended along a lumber of passages on the ground floor and rose to the third story, and shattered the skylight over the main staircase.
